Where A Resolution Might Lead: My Introduction to Screen Acting

It’s been a while between blog posts – life has been busy!

I made a New Year’s Resolution for 2026 that has certainly been a factor in that busy-ness. It might be the best New Year’s Resolution I’ve ever made, and one I would recommend to anyone.

At the turn of the year from 2025 to 2026, I resolved to pursue any potential opportunity. If I saw something that had any chance of leading down a path I wanted to take, I pledged to simply go for it. To not overthink it, second-guess it, self-reject or worry too much about any negative possibilities I couldn’t accurately predict.

My first application of this was in January. I saw an open casting call for a short film that was shooting locally. It was a paid gig, and a very decent-looking project. And, the physical description they wanted for one of the primary characters was very closely matched to me. So, I went for it. I thought, if nothing else, I get to experience a proper film audition. I got to sit under the lights, click the clapperboard, and perform. And... I got the part.

It was an amazing experience. A historical drama, multi-camera filming, microphones everywhere, costumes, sets… the whole nine yards. I loved it. So, I started keeping my eye out for more opportunities and decided to audition for the next appropriate role I saw. A found footage horror movie – awesome for a huge fan of the genre such as myself! And... I got the part.

From there, I kept going. I played a mother role in a tear-jerker drama, and a voice-over part in an offbeat comedy short. And, there’s more to come!

I’m aware that this isn’t usually how it goes when a person decides to start film acting. I have been lucky in the opportunities I’ve already been given, but I also take credit for my ambition, professionalism, and, I gotta say it, skill.

Who knows where it could go from here? I’ll keep putting myself out there, maybe look into getting an agent. In the meantime, I’m still writing. I have a few projects that are currently in the production stages and… I’ve started screenwriting! But, that’s for another post, on another day.
